New divisions in select categories: Power vs. Championship

Recent CSMAs have shown an increasing number of high-quality entries from institutions with widely varying budgets and personnel sizes. In order to judge these projects more fairly, we continue to expand divisional divisions in some of our popular categories and offer more awards.

The 2023 CSMA competition will have divisions along the lines of ‘Power’ and ‘Championship’.

  • Power
This division is defined as institutions that are members of the “Power 5” conference, as traditionally defined. This includes the Southeastern Conference (SEC), Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Big Ten Conference (B1G), Pacific 12 Conference (Pac-12), and the sports divisions of the Big 12 Conference (Big XII).

Note: The 2023 CSMA will recognize the University of Notre Dame as an ACC institution and Brigham Young University as a Big 12 institution.
  • Championship
This division is defined as all other university institutions other than those defined in the “power” division. This includes NCAA, NAIA, USCAA, NCCAA, ACCA, NJCAA, CCCAA, or NWAC-approved exercise programs.

Note: Schools that qualify as ‘Championship’ entries by these parameters and wish to compete in the ‘Power’ division may do so. However, schools eligible to enter in the “power” division must enter in the “power” division.

These divisions only apply to ‘Excellent Live Game’, ‘Excellent In-Venue Video’ and ‘Excellent Social Media Video’. See the table below for a full breakdown of award categories and divisions.

Details of eligibility and eligibility for awards will be outlined in this year’s Official Rules, which will be released on Wednesday, February 15th.
