Arsenal have made a world record bid for Manchester United striker Alessia Russo.

The England forward is out of contract at the end of the season, but Arsenal are looking to sort out a deal before the 5pm WSL transfer deadline on Tuesday.

Manchester United have been in contract negotiations with Russo for months, but little progress has been made.

As such, Russo has been free to talk to clubs outside England about a summer transfer, and there is interest from US clubs as well.

McCabe wanted by champions Chelsea

sky sports news Arsenal reported over the weekend that they have rejected a ‘substantial offer’ from Chelsea for Katie McCabe.

The 27-year-old has 18 months left on her current contract and has played in all 10 of Arsenal’s WSL matches this season.

The Gunners are understood to be reluctant to sell McCabe before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Having joined the North London side from Shelbourne in December 2015, McCabe has been named in the Arsenal squad for the 2020/21 season.

Arsenal are third in the WSL, three points behind second-placed Chelsea and leaders Manchester United.

early this month, Chelsea sell striker Bethany England to Tottenham National record fees for British players in women’s games.

The deal was worth a reported £250,000, breaking the previous record of £200,000 set by Lauren James, who will join Chelsea from Manchester United in 2021.

Russo has endured a whirlwind last year in the striker’s part of the England side that won last summer’s European Championship.

Her backheel goal in the semi-final against Sweden earned her a FIFA Poukas Award nomination. Russo admitted that such accolades, along with her potential world record fee, wouldn’t change her.

“I still think of myself as Alessia. I grew up in a small town,” Russo told Sky Sports in early January. I think it’s credited to – and I think so myself.

“It still feels weird to be nominated, even for an award like this. You have to turn on and have bigger dreams to fulfill..”
